Lost Pet Poster Checklist: What to Include and Protect
Create a poster people can understand quickly without oversharing private information.
Design for a person passing by
Use a large LOST PET headline, one clear recent photo, the pet's name, an unmistakable description, the last-seen area and time, and a contact method. Keep secondary details short enough to read from a few steps away.
Protect yourself from scams
Avoid publishing a home address. Consider withholding one identifying detail so a caller can help verify they found the correct animal. Be cautious of anyone demanding payment or a verification code before providing evidence.
Coordinate the search
Notify the microchip registry, local shelters, veterinary clinics, and relevant animal services. Share the same accurate details across channels and mark posts clearly when the pet is safely home.
