Digital QR Pet Profiles vs Official Pet Passports

Understand what a QR pet profile can share—and which government travel documents it can never replace.

The names sound similar, but the jobs are different

A QR pet profile is an owner-controlled webpage that can help a finder, sitter, daycare team, or clinic access selected contact and care information. It is designed for convenience and emergency context.

An official pet passport, animal health certificate, or export certificate is issued or completed under government rules. Border authorities decide which document is accepted for a particular route.

Useful information for a QR profile

Share enough to help, while keeping private details private.

  • A safe contact method and backup contact
  • Microchip number or partial identifier where appropriate
  • Important allergies, ongoing medicines, and care notes
  • Veterinary clinic contact and owner-approved vaccination summary

Before international travel

Start with the official authority for the destination, then confirm the plan with your veterinarian and carrier. Check rules again near departure because requirements can change.

Keep official originals where the authority requires them. A digital copy can be a valuable backup, but it does not make an invalid or missing document acceptable.
